For the last 150 years, Nauman Smith has measured our legal success by the strength of our client connections. From railroads to real estate, the bonds we’ve forged have paved the way for the next 150 years.
Nauman, Smith, Shissler & Hall, LLP, founded in 1871, is celebrating its 150th Anniversary in 2021 – the longest legacy of any law firm practicing in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. What began as a general practice law firm has expanded in response to – and proactive support of – the needs of Nauman Smith’s community and clients. The firm’s practice areas include Rail and Transportation, Right-to-Know, Media, Business and Employment, Municipal, Real Estate, Tax, Trusts and Estates, Litigation, and most recently – Bankruptcy Law.
Nauman Smith attorney and partner, Craig Staudenmaier, says it is an honor and a privilege to “be the custodians of a professional office that’s been around for a century and a half. I feel great pride and also a deep sense of responsibility to all those who came before us, and all of the clients who have stayed with us, to continue to practice law the way we believe is the reason we have been here for 150 years. We do what’s right, regardless of what that may entail.”
“We are committed to building on our history,” says managing partner at the firm, Benjamin Dunlap. “We are looking very intensely within ourselves at where we have been and where we want to go. I am proud to be a part of an organization with such a storied history. Our firm has produced judges, a US Attorney General, the first President Judge of the Commonwealth Court, among many other fine attorneys. We are skilled, we are trustworthy, and we are problem solvers.”
The attorneys and staff at Nauman Smith are proud of their experience, their leadership, and their legacy, but “that’s how it’s always been done” is not in their vocabulary– because they are always moving forward.
Throughout 2021, Nauman Smith will be hosting a series of virtual seminars highlighting the current work that the firm does and partnering with other local organizations to address the real time needs of its clients and community. Please join Nauman Smith in celebrating this significant milestone by getting ready for the next 150 years.
