Nauman Smith Attorney to Host Free Seminar on Copyrights and Insurance for Artists

February 7, 2007

(Harrisburg, Pa.) - Benjamin C. Dunlap, Jr., a partner in the Harrisburg law firm Nauman, Smith, Shissler and Hall, LLP, will be giving a free seminar entitled Legalistics: Dealing with Copyrights and Insurance, on Tuesday, February 27, 2007, from 6-8 p.m. at Jump Street, 123 Forster St. in Harrisburg. Dunlap is a former board of directors member and counsel for the Art Association of Harrisburg.

During his presentation, Dunlap will share information and resources on obtaining copyrights and insurance for artwork. He will review recent changes, regulations and policy restrictions, as well as cover insurance value versus sales value.

"This seminar is designed as an educational opportunity for artists of all experience levels. It can help beginners as well as those who have been working for 20 or more years," Dunlap said. "It will inform them of their rights and how they can protect those rights."

Dunlap's presentation is part of a series of four free seminars presented by the Whitaker Center Visual Arts Advisory Committee for artists and others in the art community. This is an effort by the committee to aid in the success and promotion of all Harrisburg area artists and people connected and working within the visual arts field in the surrounding Harrisburg region.

A member of the firm since 1992, Dunlap's primary practice areas are public utility law, administrative, employment, media and business law. An honors graduate of West Virginia University and The Dickinson School of Law (now the Penn State Dickinson School of Law), Dunlap was a member of the Woolsack Honor Society for academic achievement at Dickinson. He is admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, all Pennsylvania Federal District Courts, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court.

A member of the Dauphin County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, Dunlap performs community service work for The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, previously known as the Greater Harrisburg Foundation.

The Whitaker Center Visual Arts Advisory Committee is made up of five local art organizations including The Art Association of Harrisburg, Art Center School and Galleries in Mechanicsburg, Jump Street, Susquehanna Art Museum, and Whitaker Center. It is through the joint efforts and cooperation of these groups that the free seminars were developed, and finally made possible by Jump Street, receiving funding from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and donations of time and resources by several businesses and individuals connected to the arts.

Registration for the seminar is free by calling (717) 238-1887.
