President Judge Appoints Nauman Smith Partner as Referee

J. Stephen Feinour to assist with liquidation proceeding of Reliance Insurance Company

(Harrisburg, Pa.) - The Honorable James Gardner Colins, President Judge of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania recently appointed J. Stephen Feinour of the law firm of Nauman, Smith, Shissler & Hall, LLP to serve as a referee in the liquidation proceeding of Reliance Insurance Company.

On October 3, 2001, the court approved an order of liquidation of Reliance Insurance Company by Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner M. Diane Koken.

As a referee, Mr. Feinour, will hear objections to the notices of determination issued by the liquidator in the proceedings. His responsibilities include conducting hearings, preparing findings of fact, where appropriate and necessary, and issuing recommended decisions regarding the liquidator's determination of claims asserted against the Reliance Insurance Company estate.

The order of liquidation applies to all the former subsidiaries of Reliance Insurance Company, including Reliance National Indemnity Company, Reliance National Insurance Company, United Pacific Insurance Company, Reliance Direct Company, Reliance Surety Company, Reliance Universal Insurance Company, United Pacific Insurance Company of New York, and Reliance Insurance Company of Illinois.
